Jewels

Jewels come in four colours and four grades.

It takes a minimum of three facets each moon to maintain a Magic Girl's existence as such, but many will require more than that. Assuming a reasonable attempt to fulfil her duties she can expect to receive four facets each month via her Tome excluding any draw from or bounties on monsters.

Colours

The three colours each have a concept associated with them and different uses as follows:

Ruby (Glory)

Trapped in each of these crimson jewels is a sense of power and conflict. A ruby can be used to generate a rush of power above normal limits, to augment oneself physically, to generate violent energies, and otherwise do something amazing or spectacular.

Sapphire (Wisdom)

These blue jewels hold a seed of knowledge, understanding, and insight. A sapphire can be used to discover information, gain some new perception via Themes, or enhance any existing sense. A common use of a low grade sapphire in combat is to allow ones thoughts to outrace the world for a brief time so that the situation can be properly examined and solutions sought. In conjunction with a diamond, a sapphire can be used to 'realise' a new and usable aspect of ones Themes or Powers.

Emerald (Honour)

A green jewel is a prize in its own way for any magic girl who has been in a nasty fight as they contain the essence of restoration and recovery for any on whose behalf they had been used. Emeralds can be used to heal physical, mental, psychological, or any other type of damage when applied in the correct way and many 'healing powers' simply amplify this.

Diamond (Perfection)

A diamond jewel is a prism through which pure light splits into colours or from which the colours can combine into pure light once more. A diamond can be put to any use which a jewel of its own grade is capable of and, in addition, can be used in conjunction with a coloured jewel to permanently enhance some aspect of a magic girl.

Diamonds are rarely gained naturally, but instead can be formed from one jewel of the desired grade from each other colour. Shattering a diamond is also possible, but only yields two jewels of the same grade but differing colours.

Grades

There are four grades of jewel, each more potent than the one before, which are described below. It is possible to shatter a jewel to salvage jewels of the next lower grade, but such actions only yields three lower grade jewels.

Facet

The smallest usable jewels

  • Diamond : x
  • Emerald : x
  • Sapphire : x
  • Ruby : x

Shard

Seven similarly coloured Facets can be coaxed into becoming a single Shard.

  • Diamond : x
  • Emerald : x
  • Sapphire : x
  • Ruby : x

Crystal

Nine identical Shards can be forged into a single crystal.

  • Diamond : x
  • Emerald : x
  • Sapphire : x
  • Ruby : x

Gem

As the highest grade of jewel a gem can only be created by merging thirteen crystals of the same colour.

  • Diamond : The base cost for empowering, or retiring, a magic girl.
  • Emerald : Resurrection of multiple newly deceased. Restoration of a shattered soul.
  • Sapphire : Arbitrary and perfect precognition for a scene. Gain dossiers on an entire side.
  • Ruby : Obliterate a present opposing force. Disrupt a Themes access to the mundane when slaying an appropriate protagonist.

( Yes, that does mean that if you're working from colored shards it'll take 819 of each color to get a diamond Gem. Or 2457 in total.)
